Welcome To Year 2 / Croeso i Blwyddyn Dau
It's been very busy in Year 1/2. We started off the week by finishing our Magic Porridge Pot stories. The children were very proud of what they had written and proud of justhow much they had written. Later on in the week we created our own story maps in pairs. We are now innovating the story by changing the characters, setting and the magic item. We had some excellent ideas including magic carrots, magic jam jars and magic honey pots. In maths we have been working on place value, the concept of and symbols for more than and less than. We especially enjoyed playing place value snakes and ladders and Play your Cards Right. Along with all of this work we have been busy practising for the concert. Most of the children know their lines now and we are just working on them knowing when to come on stage and trying to say the words loudly.

We have been working with the story of 'The Magic Porridge Pot' as part of Talk for Writing. We now know the story and can tell the whole thing by just using our story map. We have started writing the story in class, it's really helping us remember to use capital letters and full stops...we've never written so much!! It has has also led to so many fun activities in class. Our Science focus this term has been 'Sound'. We have started KWL grids to help us think about all that we already know and all that we want to find out. This week we completed a carousel of activities to help us experience different sounds and to find out how sounds work. Need week our reading focus will be sound, we are hoping to explain what we experienced. In year 1/2 we are getting really good at using our reasoning skils. Having chocolate as our focus on Friday made us all really want to solve the problem!!! This week we used our senses to think about fireworks. We wrote down words on an anchor chart and then added adjectives to make them more interesting. We then used these to make fabulous acrostic poems on the computers in pairs. Despite the rain we had a lovely visit to Clydach library. 'Library Liz' read us two fantastic stories and we all selected a book to bring back to school. Later that day we shared our library books with some pupils from year 4. |
